Three suspects arrested, as NDLEA destroys 7 Hectares of Indian hemp farm


Three suspects have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kogi State for cultivating cannabis sativa  popularly known as Indian hemps.
 
 
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the NDLEA Kogi Commander, Umar Yahuza, disclosed this to journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday. 
 
Yahuza who disclosed that the illicit substance has since been destroyed by officers of his command noted that  three hectares of cannabis sativa were discovered in Ikeja  Forest, while the other four were in Maikeke Village of in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of the state
 
According to the NDLEA Commander, the owner of the four hectares of cannabis sativa farm escaped while the three suspects were arrested during the operation by officers of the agency in Kogi East.
 
While noting that the agency will continue to fight for zero tolerance to illicit drugs in the Kogi East axis, Umar Yahuza said the discoveries of the illicit substance followed intelligence reports received from individuals in the State.
 
"Our officers and men swooped on the two farms on August 9 and August 15 respectively. We are on the trail of the suspect who escaped to ensure he is arrested and prosecuted. 
 
"Their activities in the communities are destroying the lives of citizens. NDLEA is leaving nothing to chance in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
 
" We are planning to search every nook and cranny of Kogi to ensure that the traffickers and comments of hard drugs are arrested and brought to book to serve as deterrent to others" he added.
