The Vice Chancellor of Dominican University-Ibadan, DUI, Prof. Jacinta Opara, has tasked students of the institution not to settle for less, encouraging them to be responsible about whatever they post online and in social media,

Fresh Angle International, can report that Prof. Opara, who gave the task Monday October 7, during the Orientation for New and Returning Students of Dominican University, Ibadan, said Dominican University brand is built on Academic Excellence, Community Service and Engagement as well as Holistic Personal Development.

She asserted: “We gather here not only to begin a new academic year but also to reflect on the role each of you will play in shaping and representing the Dominican University brand. This orientation is more than a formal welcome; it is an invitation for you to understand your responsibilities as students, and most importantly, as ambassadors of our cherished institution.

“Essence of the Dominican University Brand Before we discuss your roles as ambassadors, let us first define what we mean by the Dominican University brand. A brand is more than a logo, slogan, or visual representation. It is the embodiment of our values, mission, and the experience we provide to our students and the broader community.

“At Dominican University, our brand is built on three core pillars:

1. Academic Excellence: We are committed to providing an education that goes beyond textbooks. We encourage critical thinking, ethical inquiry, and the pursuit of knowledge in all forms. Our faculty are dedicated to nurturing minds and preparing students for leadership roles in their respective fields.

2. Community Service and Engagement: Rooted in the Dominican tradition, we place high value on service to society. We believe in giving back to our communities and making positive impacts on the world around us. This aligns with our mission to foster a spirit of service, compassion, and social responsibility.

3. Holistic Personal Development: At Dominican University, education is about the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. We aim to provide an environment where students can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and morally. We prepare you not only to succeed in your careers but also to lead fulfilling lives that make a difference in the world.

“Your Role as Ambassadors and students of Dominican University, you represent these core values both inside and outside the classroom. Whether you realize it or not, each of your actions— how you engage with your peers, the way you approach your studies, and how you interact with society—reflects back on our university.

“In essence, you are the face of Dominican University. Every conversation you have, every initiative you lead, and every step you take within the wider community carries with it the imprint of the institution that has shaped you.

“1. In the Classroom: Strive for academic excellence. Engage actively with your lecturers and classmates. Ask questions, seek knowledge, and never settle for less than your best. The pursuit of learning is not a passive activity; it is one that requires dedication and curiosity. By excelling in your studies, you uphold the reputation of this institution as one that nurtures the brightest minds.

“2. In the Community: Dominican University is a university with a mission to serve. I urge you to take part in community service projects, leadership opportunities, and social outreach. When you serve the community, you demonstrate the values we stand for. You prove that Dominican University students are not just learners but changemakers, people who use their education for the greater good.

“3. Online and in social media: In today’s digital age, your online presence is also a reflection of the Dominican University brand. I encourage you to be thoughtful and responsible about what you post, how you engage with others online, and the image you project. Use social media to spread positivity, engage in meaningful discussions, and showcase the impact you are making as students of Dominican University.

“Dominican University is what you make of it. Our brand, our reputation, and our future are in your hands. Wear it proudly, live it fully, and remember that wherever you go, you are not just representing yourself; you are representing a university with a long-standing tradition of excellence.”
