Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Thankgod Harry Trakiriowei, has bemoaned the low interest of indigenes of the state as regards application for military and paramilitary recruitments in the country, saying: “It is very disappointing that we haven't produced a military general from this region. Other states use our quota, when it comes to these exercises”.
Barr. Trakiriowei, who spoke Friday November 22 at Warri South Council Sub-Secretariat in Warri, during ‘a-meet-the-youth-sensitization campaign’ put together by Warri South Local Government Council, noted: “We have decided to come out to create awareness and also to tell the good people of Warri South Local Government Area, to come out and apply for paramilitary and military recruitments.
“The one for Army, has passed, but the one for Police (www.policerecruitment.gov.ng ) and Navy, is ongoing and will be ending in December. I want to use this opportunity to tell you people that they are many incentives that the state government, has agreed upon that will take care of our people to the latter.
“We are begging the good people of Warri South Local Government Area, from 19 to 35 years to apply, we have short service. If you are a graduate, there are open doors. The requirements for you to be able to join, is to make sure that you are medically fit, no tattoos on your body and no pregnancy (for females).”
Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Oritseweyinmi Isaac, in his remarks, revealed: “We will be creating a Desk Office, where Desk Officer will be assigned to ensure that each community gets slots. Fifty Thousand Naira incentive (N50,000.00) will be given to each of four applicants and One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira each (N150,000.00) incentive, will be given to four successful candidates to go to Zaria for training.”
Delta State representative for Paramilitary and Military Recruitment, Pastor Emmanuel Egodo, while addressing youths from the different communities in Warri South Local Government Area, said: “The reason we are here today is to plead with the good people of Warri South Local Government Area, to join the paramilitary and military recruitment exercises. I am truly pained that as a state representative, no youth from my region applies for paramilitary and military recruitment.
Pastor Emmanuel Egodo, addressing the youths
“The Army do not need too many certificates, provided you have five passes and a credit in Maths and English, you are good to go. Just like my commissioner said, there are lots of incentives. There is what we call trade and non-trade, for trade, it is for people that finished secondary school, between 18 to 22years to apply, while non-trade, is for people that finished secondary school and could not gain admission into the university and decide to acquire a skill.
“The military is ready to sponsor you, because they know that training you, will be of benefit to them and it is free of charge. This is a medium to create employment, we should not look down on the job. For those that have applied already, a text message will be sent to you and that is what you need to partake in the exercise.

“The State government, has made provision for Ration Cash Allowance and logistics, one day is N3,000 after you must have passed all the test to make sure that you do not get stranded on the way. For now, the recruitment that is available, is the Nigeria Navy and the website (www.joinnigerianavy.com ) is open from on the 5th to 26th November, just 4 days left to apply. Application for Any Army work is free.”
The Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry for Youth Development, Dr. Ngozi Mogbolu, remarked: “As leaders of each community, we are pleading for you to help convince the youths in your locality to take part in the exercises. There are different arms of the paramilitary and military recruitment going on now.
“The reason the governor set up the committee, is because youths from Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, do not partake in paramilitary and military recruitments and every year, quota given to Delta State, is not filled.”
