Delta State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, says the groundbreaking of Ubeji branch of WEMA Bank, marked a great day for him, because Ubeji and its neighbouring communities have good roads, electricity and other necessities of a city, but had no commercial bank.
Chief Arenyeka, who identified banking as a major plank of commercial activities in any environment, noted: “If you look at Ubeji, it has all the qualities of a city, but it does not have a bank.
“To the glory of God, the Chairman (Comr. Agbateyiniro) struggled very hard, moving from here to the state, moving to Central Bank and moving to all arms that are necessary, to make sure we have a bank and today, we have WEMA bank in Ubeji.”
The PDP Chairman, who spoke Tuesday January 14 in Warri, Delta State, during the groundbreaking of WEMA Bank, Ubeji, appealed to people of Ubeji and its neighbouring communities to patronize the bank.

In his opening remarks, the Business Development Manager of WEMA Bank, Emmanuel Erikowa, recalled how the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, came to them and disclosed his dream of attracting a branch to Ubeji, that would service the densely populated Ubeji and its neighbouring communities.
Emmanuel Erikowa, making his remarks
Erikowa, stated: “We told him that it was a difficult task, because many banks tried to come down here (Ubeji) but they failed. He said, you are a son of Itsekiri and you are from that area, so go and make it work.”
Whilst disclosing that Comr. Agbateyiniro took them to the Olu of Warri, to get the Monarch’ support, Erikowa, stated that after several travels and consultations, the Bank Management accepted that a branch be set up at Ubeji.
“The request was made to CBN and it was approved. We want to thank the chairman for making this possible”, Erikowa, added.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Issac, averred: “We are gathered here today to witness one of the M.O.R.E Grace Agenda projects. It is important that I say this, every community has their priorities. The fact that Ubeji, Egbokodo and neighbouring communities, need a bank, does not mean that every other area in Warri South will need a bank.
Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, making his keynote remarks
“We are taking these things, one at a time and on the basis of what each community needs. There's nobody that will come here today and say that this community (Ubeji) does not need a bank, because the inconvenience of taking okada (Motorbike) to a distance area, before you can access a bank, is part of what we are here to address. This vehicle will go round, it will touch every part of Warri South.”
