UNIOSUN produces 54 first class graduates

 Osun State University, Osogbo has produced 54 first class graduates who stand the chance of getting jobs in the university as graduate assistants.  

Addressing a press conference to herald the 6th convocation ceremonies of the university, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola told newsmen that UNIOSUN has produced good and best quality of 1,236 graduates who are well moulded in character and learning.

According to him, “out of 1236 graduates, 54 made first class, 512 made second class upper division, 539 made second class lower division, 129 made third class while only two graduated with pass.

Our Osun State Correspondent reports that out of the 54 first class graduates, the college of Agriculture produced 14, College of Humanities and Culture produced only one, College of Health Sciences produced two, College of Law also produced two, College of Management and Social Sciences produced 22 while the College of Science Engineering and Technology produced 13.

A total number of 174 graduated from the College of Agriculture, 57 graduated from the College of Education, 196 graduated from the College of humanities and Culture, 34 graduated from the College of Health Sciences and 50 graduated from the College of Law. Also, a total number of 441 graduated from the College of Management and Social Sciences, while 284 graduated from the College of Science Engineering and Technology”.

The VC said that as a policy, the first class graduates who might wish to take up a career in the university are normally given the chance to compete for the limited spaces that may exist. “Our first class graduates can get jobs in the university as graduate assistants. Though, we might not be able to take all of them, we will take the very best among them.”

Popoola said newly completed structures including the university library that would be named after the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Sola Akinrinade will be commissioned as part of activities marking the convocation ceremonies while three past Pioneer Pro Chancellors and Chairmen of Council of the university, Professors Peter Okebukola, Gabriel Olawoyin and Obafemi Ajibola would be honoured with honorary degrees.

 The VC added that the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Is’-haq Oloyede would deliver the foundation day lecture on Tuesday April 4, while the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Femi Bamiro would deliver the convocation lecture of the 10-year-old University on Wednesday, April 5.
