The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, has called for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat financial crimes that threaten the nation’s economic stability.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs II Abdulmalik Akintola, Comptroller Adelaja made the call during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Zonal Office in Ibadan on Thursday, 27 February 2025.
Comptroller Adelaja was received by the Zonal Director, Hauwa Ringim, and other senior officers. He emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling illicit financial activities, money laundering, and smuggling.
The Customs Area Controller commended the EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts and pledged to strengthen collaboration through intelligence-sharing, operational coordination, and capacity-building initiatives.
In response, Ringim expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to enhancing inter-agency cooperation in intelligence-sharing and joint operations. She acknowledged the growing challenge of trans-border financial crimes and assured the NCS of the EFCC’s support in combating illegal trade activities.
The meeting also highlighted the urgent need to curb illegal wildlife trafficking, which poses significant economic and environmental risks.
Both agencies pledged to sustain their partnership in tackling financial crimes and illicit trade to safeguard Nigeria’s economic progress.
