Ugborodo Community Concerned Stakeholders and Youths in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have notified President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of a seven-day ultimatum handed down to oil and gas major, Chevron Nigeria Limited, to address alleged unbearable marginalization, to forestall a breakdown of law and order in the community.
The Ugborodo Youth leadership and Concerned Stakeholders, in the letter dated Sunday March 2 and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accused Chevron Nigeria Limited of having no regard for the Local Content Policy.
The correspondence, which copied critical stakeholders and was authored by the President and Public Relations Officer, PRO of Ugborodo Youth body, Messrs Wilson Ejeh and David Mamah, noted in parts: “With humility and sincere heart, we bring to you greetings from our ancestral home, Ugborodo Federated Community, Delta State of Nigeria. Your Excellency, we are concerned stakeholders and youths of Ugborodo Community, who believe in the future of this country and your hope agenda for achieving same.
“We believe good things do not come easy but that, in no distant time, we will begin to see the future country of our dream and benefit from your hope agenda and the general dividends of democracy.
“We are constrained to bring to your kind attention the humiliating, dehumanizing and unbearable marginalization that we the concerned stakeholders and youths of Ugborodo Community have suffered and continue to suffer in the hands of Chevron Nigeria Limited (A Multinational Oil Corporation) which has been operating in our community for over FIFTY years, but with nothing to show for it, except environmental pollution and total degradation of our land and our entire eco-system.
“Chevron Nigeria Limited has no regard, whatsoever, for the Local Content Policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria. We are not considered in any aspect of their operation, not even in employment or empowerment opportunities. Above all, no physical development or anything to show as evidence of their multibillion dollars operation in our land for all these years.
“We have written letters to them severally, begging for employment or empowerment, but to no avail; but on daily basis we see highly placed Chevron personnel giving out available contract, employments and even menial jobs to people from other tribes and places while we look on with amazement and utter deprivation.
“Even a reminder letter on our grievances which was sent on the 15th of February 2025 to Chevron Nigeria Limited, has been blatantly ignored.
“We regret to say that it has come to a height where we can no longer tolerate the arrogance of Chevron in their dealings with us. Consequently, we hereby respectfully inform your Excellency that we are also, by this open letter, giving A SEVEN DAY ULTIMATUM to Chevron Nigeria Limited to immediately address the issues raised here, and which we have consistently raised with them concerning our legitimate demands so as to forestall a breakdown of law and order in our community that may possibly impact on Chevron operations in our land.
“We look forward to your Excellency’s prompt intervention in this matter while we thank you in advance for your kind co-operation and understanding.”
