PIA: Ewajane counters Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Aide, says Chevron has ben fulfilling its obligations

The President, Federation of Ugboland Youth and Secretary, Host Communities of Nigeria, Producing Oil and Gas, Ondo State chapter, Comrade Samson Ewajane, says since the era of the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has been fulfilling its obligations to the Host Communities in Ondo State.

Comr. Ewajane, dismissed the call by the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Niger Delta and Amnesty Affairs, Hon. Omojuwa Akinfemi Raymond, wherein the Governor’s Aide urged President Bola Tinubu to amend the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and ensure that Chevron fulfills its obligations to host communities in the region.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of Board and Chief Executive Officer, Chevron Corporation, the Scribe of Host Communities of Nigeria, Producing Oil and Gas, Ondo State chapter, noted that if there are areas anyone wants Chevron Nigeria Limited to do better or up their corporate social responsibility, it should be done by offering advice, rather than calling out the company on social media.

The Correspondent, which was made available to Fresh Angle International, today, Wednesday April 2, stated in parts: “The attention of the Host Communities Producing Oil and Gas in Ondo State, has been drawn to the news credited to Omojuwa Akinfemiwa, SSA to the Governor of Ondo State over his recent publication as captured above.

“His position does not in any way represent the interests of the Host Communities producing oil and gas in Ondo State.

“It is an incontestable fact that PIA is the best thing that would ever happen to the Host Communities of the Niger Delta region in Nigeria. PIA is totally and directly for the development of the Host Communities, which is a paradigm shift from the old MoU and GMoU arrangements.

“We have not gotten it totally right, as there are still some areas to be improved on, like giving the community total control of their money, without interference by the setlor etc.

“Since the era of the PIA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has been fulfilling its obligations to the Host Communities in Ondo State, unlike Conoil owned by Mike Adenuga, which has become invincible for the Host Communities. Presently, the only setlor that is up and doing in Ondo State, is Chevron Nigeria Limited and we give them the 'Kudos'.

Specifically, if there are areas anyone wants Chevron Nigeria Limited to do better or up their corporate social responsibility, it should had better be done by offering advice, rather than calling out on social media: negotiation before confrontation is the best approach to agitation and community development.

“On behalf of the Host Communities, I want appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his uncommon interest in bringing the lost glory to the sea incursion affected communities in Ilaje, Ondo State, specially AYETORO.

“Mr. President sir, your efforts have currently brought 'ease of new life' to us and we say thank you.

“We shall continue to give your government all the necessary support. To us, you are the best President Nigeria would ever have.”
