In commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, held every May 28, the Aid Her Initiative carried out a high-impact outreach programme in the rural communities of Ajagbodudu (Itsekiri community) and Opuama (Ijaw community), located in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The event, was aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene education—an essential yet often overlooked aspect of girls’ health, dignity and empowerment.
Recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene to girls’ well-being, school attendance, and self-esteem, the initiative delivered comprehensive education sessions to young girls in these underserved communities.
The sessions focused on the proper use and care of sanitary pads (both reusable and disposable), menstrual cycle tracking, personal hygiene, and infection prevention.

After a very extensive and resourceful event in Ajagbodudu (interior of Koko) a day earlier, the team embarked on a 1-hour and 47-minute speedboat journey to reach the remote, riverine community of Opuama—demonstrating a strong commitment to reaching vulnerable populations.
For many of the girls there, it was their first time seeing a sanitary pad, as they had previously relied on rags—an unsafe and unhygienic alternative that often led to infections and school absenteeism.
To tackle this issue, the Aid Her Initiative distributed hundreds of sanitary and reusable pads, along with menstrual calendars to help girls track their cycles—empowering them with knowledge, restoring their dignity, and boosting their confidence.
Aid Her Initiative- powered by PG Support Group, received strong support from several partners, including the Nigerian Girl Guides, Presco Plc. Sea View water.
Health care professionals, community leaders, and leadership of Local Government from Warri-North and South, as well as NULGE Warri North Chapter and various well-meaning individuals and firms. Speaking at the event, Mrs. Ofe Omoregbee, Convener of the Aid Her Initiative – Menstrual Hygiene Day, stated: “This outreach is designed to empower, educate, and engage young girls on menstrual hygiene management.

It is a call to action for all stakeholders—teachers, parents, community leaders, government, and corporate organizations—to unite in supporting the girl child by making hygiene products accessible, especially in rural areas.”
She further emphasized: “Poor menstrual hygiene management continues to negatively impact girls' health, education, and self-esteem. It can also lead to reproductive and urinary tract infections, with long-term consequences such as infertility and birth complications. We must break the silence and stigma around menstruation.”
The event’s success underscored the urgent need for continued investment in menstrual health education and resources.
