In the wake of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s surprise defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), prominent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Itsekiri axis of Warri South West Local Government Area convened on Wednesday in a closed-door meeting aimed at reaffirming party unity and charting a forward course.
The gathering, described by insiders as both strategic and symbolic, brought together respected PDP figures including Chief Edwin Olley, Tenumah Joseph O., Joe Arubi, Femi Uwawah, Arubi Emiko, David Oligida, Marian Lori, and Bridget Fregene, among others. Also in attendance was the immediate past Chairman of Warri South LGA, Dr. Michael Tidi, who participated in an observer capacity.
Sources at the meeting confirmed that discussions centred on reorganizing the party structure at the grassroots, with all attendees unanimously agreeing to return to their respective wards to begin mobilizing support and re-engaging loyalists.
“The defection of the Governor is not the end of PDP in Warri South West,” one participant said. “If anything, it’s a call to action.”
The meeting ended on a conciliatory note, with plans underway for a broader reconciliation and strategy session involving leaders from the Ijaw axis of the local government in the coming days.
The PDP in Delta State, particularly in strongholds like Warri South West, appears poised to reclaim lost ground and reaffirm its relevance ahead of future political battles.
