Authorities of Warri South Local Government Council, have begun moves to reallocate shops at Pessu Market, following failure of majority of the shop owners to utilize the shops.

Recall that the Council had on Friday February 21, 2025 issued a 14-day ultimatum for shop owners in the market to utilize their shops or face forfeiture.

The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, had on Monday March 10, 2025, extended the ultimatum by seven days.

The Council, subsequently declared revocation of the unutilized shops, following failure of  majority of the shop owners to leverage on the weeklong extension.

Investigations revealed that there are 1,894 lockup and about 300 open shops at Pessu Market, Warri.

The market, which has experienced socio-economic revival since the Agbateyiniro administration attracted the weekly and daily sale of second-hand clothes and yam tubers respectively, has good access, internal roads and solid jetty on the waterfront.

Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Nunu, in a chat with newsmen Wednesday July 30, called on traders interested in doing business in Pessu Market, to apply for shops through Office of the Secretary to Warri South Local Government.

According to Mr. Nunu, official indication of interest for shops at the market, will commence Thursday July 31 and run for 2weeks.

The Warri South Council Scribe, asserted: “The Council is now ready to reallocate shops at Pessu Market, after discovering that majority of the initial shop owners, failed to meet up with the two ultimatums given to them earlier in the year.”
