The leadership of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, says those who appealed to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to stop their inauguration reception scheduled to hold today, Thursday November 27 at INYC Secretariat, Odion Road, Warri, allegedly unleashed mayhem on some of their boys, who were on their way home, after vacating INYC Secretariat on the governor’s order.

President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comr. Appearance Afejuku, Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Council, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi and the Director of Women Affairs, INYC, Comr. Alero Tenumah, made the allegation, while briefing newsmen in Warri, Thursday November 27.

The INYC President, Comr. Afejuku, who noted that his leadership were earlier inaugurated, ahead of the suspended reception Thursday November 27, thanked the peace-loving people of Warri kingdom and appealed to other exco members as well as supporters of INYC, to remain calm, saying the attacks on members of INYC earlier today, including the vandalism of equipment of the Disc Jockey, paid to perform, have been incidented with the relevant security agencies.

According to him, the ceremony originally scheduled for today, was to introduce members of his executive to leaders and stakeholders of INYC, just as he hinted that arrangements, were in top gear, for a thanksgiving service to be held by the new leadership of INYC.

Public Relations Officer of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Hon Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, stated that some miscreants in Warri kingdom, issued threats against the INYC reception, saying “evidence are there on social media that whenever we gather at the reception, they will come and kill us, but we didn’t answer them, knowing fully well they are kids.

He added: “On the 26th of November, last night, some of them ran to the governor and lay false accusations, based on it, the governor (Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori) put a call across to some of our leaders, which led to the halting of our reception, that was suppose to take place today, despite us spending much money for the reception.

“As law abiding citizens of the state, we listened to the governor, the call for us to halt everything about the reception, came 1.00am (today) and we had to demobilize everybody from INYC secretariat, located at No 50 Odion Road, Warri. To our surprise, a call came to us this morning that some miscreants took over INYC secretariat, molested some of our supporters, who were living in that area and took their personal effects. This is clear injustice.

“We are calling on the relevant security agencies, to do the needful, because some of supporters have been injured and these persons who are involved in this particular act, should be dealt with, they will come tomorrow and repeat same. If there is reprisal, it might cause disruption to the peace we have being enjoying in the state.

“We are also calling on our amiable governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, to do the needful, because a stitch in time, saves nine.”

Director of Women Affairs, INYC, Comr. Alero Naomi Tenumah, on her part, said: “It is very unfortunate that brothers will come after brothers, without any issue.

“We are members and subject of Warri kingdom, very loyal to our kingdom. INYC is a well registered body, our exco have been inaugurated.

“Our respected governor, gave a directive for us to put the ceremony on hold, but some persons attacked some of our members on the road.

“We are calling on the security agencies to enforce peace in Warri kingdom, repeat of such attacks, won’t be tolerated.”
