Astaff of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC,Comrade Darlington Erihonja was on Wednesday August 24, injected with poisonoussubstance by unknown assailants at the premises of the commission in Warri,Delta State, Fresh Angle reliably gathered.

Aneyewitness said the victim surrendered to the poisonous injection whenthreatened by the gunmen.

FreshAnglereliably gathered that the victim was immediately rushed to Warri CentralHospital by security men who averted a near uprising by his colleagues.

WhenOurSenior Correspondent visited the premises of DESOPADEC Friday August26, the whole place was calm, while staff of the commission didn’t come to workas a result of the incident.

Astaff of DESOPADEC who spoke to Fresh Angle on condition ofanonymity, described the incident as shocking to everyone because the act wascarried out in broad day light while staff were at work. He added that one ofthe suspects was apprehended by the security men on ground and he was coolingoff at the custody of the Nigerian Police Force Area Command in Warri as atpress time.

Accordingto him, the victim who has been spearheading the struggle for staff welfare wasrushed to Warri Central hospital, just as he added that Darlington has sincebeen moved to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

Asecurity man of the commission who identified himself as  Abraham Fresh told our Correspondent that himselfand another of his colleague, Chairman Makpero were the ones who rushedDarlington Erihonja to the Warri Central Hospital while he was shouting “I deydie o—make una help me”. According to the security man, by the time theyarrived Warri Central Hospital, some parts of Darlington’s body were alreadyswollen. He said one of the suspects was apprehended and taken to the AreaCommand ‘A’ Division, Warri.

WhenFreshAngle called at the office of the Investigating Police Officer (namewithheld) at the Area Command ‘A’ Division, Warri, the Officer who displayedarrogance towards our Correspondent said from distance that a suspect wasapprehended. He disclosed that the suspect has so far confessed 16 personsinvolved in the assassination attempt.

TheChief Medical Officer of Warri Central Hospital could not be reached to confirmif the victim was still undergoing treatment at the hospital when OurCorrespondent visited Friday August 26.
