Members of Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, have alleged personal interests in the ongoing protest by Ugborodo indigenes against perceived marginalisation by Chevron Nigeria Limited and NNPCL.
President of Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, Mrs. Vivian Mene, in a syndicated video clip released Thursday December 18, said the protesters at Chevron Nigeria Limited facilities in Ugborodo, Warri South - West Local Government Area, should not promote their individual interests above the collective interest of Itsekiri Nation, insisting the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited and NNPCL, should only negotiate with The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.
According to her, sponsors of the ongoing protest, were doing so, because the contract of a vessel, working under a catering company, has expired and they are pressuring Chevron Nigeria Limited to renew the contract.
She accused certain leaders of Ugborodo Community of benefitting from managing the community affairs with Chevron Nigeria Limited all these years, to the detriment of a larger majority of the community Indigenes.
Mrs. Mene, reiterated her earlier calls for free access to the operational bases of Chevron Nigeria Limited and fair employment opportunities to Indigenes of the host community.
