KENW appeals to Gov Ododo to equip Idah Naval outpost with patrol vehicles

A community policing non-governmental organisation, Kogi East Neighborhood Watch (KENW), has appealed to Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, to urgently empower the Naval Outpost in Idah with patrol vehicles to strengthen security operations across Kogi East Senatorial District.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Director of Public Communication, Wing Commander Iye Ayefu (rtd), KENW described the appeal as both urgent and necessary, stressing that mobility remains a critical component of modern military and security operations.

According to Ayefu, the Naval Outpost in Idah currently lacks adequate patrol vehicles to effectively respond to crises, establish new security posts, and deploy personnel beyond Idah particularly to Ibaji Local Government Area, where the establishment of a new post has been strongly advocated.

“Their area of responsibility covers the entire Kogi East zone, including Ibaji and Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Areas, where security challenges are presently being managed,” the statement read.

KENW commended the Naval Outpost for its contributions to security in the region, noting that it played a key role in highway clearance operations during the ember months, ensuring hitch-free travel for residents during the yuletide season.

“The Navy outpost at Idah supported the ember months highway security activities by carrying out clearance operations, which made it possible for people to travel safely during the festive period,” Ayefu stated.

He further noted that the outpost had been actively involved in managing the crisis in Ibaji involving herders, fishers, and farmers, helping to prevent an escalation of hostilities.

However, the group lamented that despite these efforts, the outpost has been unable to fully maximise its operational potential due to inadequate logistics.

“It has become increasingly difficult for the Naval Outpost at Idah to fully utilise its security capabilities without the required logistics. The outpost often finds it challenging to deploy troops to Ibaji and cannot establish a post there without adequate mobility,” the statement added.

KENW expressed belief that the governor’s attention may not have been sufficiently drawn to the logistical shortfalls facing the naval formation.

“We believe that the attention of the Executive Governor has not been adequately drawn to this urgent need, which may account for the current logistical shortcomings at the Naval Outpost in Idah,” Ayefu said.

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the  organisation  appealed to Governor Ododo to urgently equip the Idah Naval Outpost with patrol vehicles and other necessary support to enhance effective security coverage across Kogi East.

“This will enable the outpost to perform more efficiently in addressing and connecting security challenges across the zone,” the statement concluded.
