Ekurede – Itsekiri youths protest alleged marginalization in amnesty slots
Burn-fire at Ajamimogha by Olu Palace junction where the protest commenced

Hundreds of Ekurede-Itsekiri youths in the early hours of Friday October 19 staged a peaceful protest in Warri, Delta State, over alleged manipulation of the 500 amnesty slots recently ceded to Itsekiri nation.

Our Senior Correspondent who traced the protesters to Ekurede-Itsekiri by the bridge linking the NPA Expressway after they left the Olu Palace junction, reports that the protesters comprises of both literate and uneducated youths.

Chairman of Ekurede-Itsekiri community, Mr. Oritsema Olley, who spoke exclusively to Fresh Angle on behalf of the protesters, accused “some Itsekiri leaders” of sharing the amnesty slots to selected communities, thus excluding youths of Ekurede-Itsekiri.

Olley who declined disclosing the names of the Itsekiri elders allegedly manipulating the amnesty slots, warned that if by Wednesday October 24, 2012, Ekurede – Itsekiri youths are not incorporated in the amnesty slots they will go back to the street.

One Mike Odeli who identified himself as a member of Itsekiri National Youth Council who also spoke with Fresh Angle confirmed that amnesty slots has been released to Itsekiri nation, just as he corroborated the allegation that some elders are sharing the amnesty slots to communities without considering youths of Ekurede-Itsekiri.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that there were fierce looking soldiers near the Ekurede – Itsekiri bridge while the protest was going on, apparently to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
