As the world marks Menstrual Hygiene Day- May 28, 2026, Aid Her Initiative has once again taken its advocacy beyond awareness into meaningful community action, reaching hundreds of young people across Delta State with education, support, and hope.

Guided by the global vision of “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld,” the initiative continues to champion a future where no girl is held back because of menstruation and where menstrual health is treated as a matter of dignity, education, equality, and human development.

For Aid Her Initiative, creating a period-friendly world means building communities where menstruation is accepted as a normal fact of life, free from stigma and shame; where every child is educated about menstrual health from an early age; and where access to quality menstrual products, safe sanitation facilities, and menstrual health support is available to all.

As part of this year’s commemoration, the organization carried out impactful outreach programmes at Iwere College, Koko, in Warri North Local Government Area and Atuwatse II College, Ifiekporo, in Warri South Local Government Area, bringing together approximately 650 girls and boys for interactive educational sessions on menstrual hygiene management, personal hygiene, dignity, confidence, and community responsibility.

Speaking during the outreach, representatives of the initiative emphasized that menstrual hygiene is not merely a health issue but one that directly affects education, self-esteem, confidence, and future opportunities for young girls. According to the organization, period poverty remains a major challenge in many rural and underserved communities, where numerous girls still lack access to sanitary materials, proper menstrual health education, and supportive environments.

The consequences often include school absenteeism, poor hygiene practices, health complications, social stigma, and reduced self-confidence. The initiative further stressed that achieving a period-friendly world requires the collective effort of all stakeholders, including students, parents, guardians, teachers, principals, community leaders, healthcare professionals, government institutions, corporate organizations, media platforms, and development partners. One of the major highlights of the outreach was the active involvement of boys in the educational sessions, reinforcing the belief that menstrual health conversations should not exclude the wider community.

Participants were encouraged to become advocates for dignity, respect, and support for menstruating girls within their schools and communities.

Aid Her Initiative expressed profound appreciation to its sponsors and supporters whose contributions made the outreach possible. Organizations recognized for their support include: - Tomba Resources Nigeria Limited - Seaview Table Water - NULGE, Warri South Chapter - PG Support Services The organization also acknowledged the valuable partnership and collaboration of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association, Delta State Chapter, alongside volunteers, educators, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme.

Speaking on the broader vision of the initiative, the Convener, Mrs. Ofe Omoregbee, noted that sustainable change can only happen when communities come together to educate, engage, and empower vulnerable populations. “Menstrual hygiene is about dignity, confidence, education, and opportunity. No girl should miss school or suffer in silence because of a natural biological process. Through collective action, awareness, and support, we can build communities where every child has the opportunity to thrive,” she stated.

As Aid Her Initiative continues to expand its outreach across rural and underserved communities, the organization remains committed to promoting awareness, ending period poverty, encouraging inclusive community participation, and empowering young people with the knowledge and support needed to build healthier and brighter futures. Aid Her Initiative Educate • Engage • Empower Empowering Lives, Transforming Communities.
