Massive Clearing of Canals and Evacuatilon of Sand, Waste, Debris continues in Commission's Mandate Areas

The ongoing flood control intervention exercise, by DESOPADEC in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment continued Wednesday July 1, 2026 in Sapele and Uvwie Local Government Areas of Delta State.

In Sapele, the team worked on the clearing of the canals from Ajumele to Ajogodo, linking new Okpe road to Ugheyiyi.

The canal which is a critical discharge point of water from drainages in the city has been given a facelift even as the swamp buggy was seen in action clearing grasses, bringing out waste and debris to make way for a free flow of water through the channels to the main Sapele River.

Many respondents in the area commended the ongoing efforts of the Commission and urged residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the water ways, as such action is an environmental hazard which is inimical to public health.

Meanwhile, a large Boar was caught by the swamp buggy operator at the Ajogodo axis of the canal today.

At the GRA in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, artisans, pay loaders and tipper lorries were seen evacuating massive sand and debris to the designated dump site in the city as the first phase of the ongoing exercise draws to a close

The exercise was adjudged as a laudable effort by the Commission in tackling the perennial storm water flooding in the Commissions mandate areas.
