Operations at the Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS, Asaba, were severely disrupted on Thursday morning after floodwaters inundated large sections of the station's premises, leaving staff and visitors stranded and unable to gain access to their offices.

The flood, which followed heavy rainfall in parts of Asaba and its environs, submerged access roads and surrounding areas of the state-owned media organization, creating serious challenges for workers reporting for duty.

Correspondent, described the situation as alarming, with water levels rising to the extent that normal movement within and around the premises became difficult.

Some staff members who arrived for work were forced to turn back, while others reportedly searched for alternative routes to access the facility.

Observers at the scene noted that the extent of the flooding was so severe that boats would have been needed to navigate certain sections of the affected area.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing concerns over flooding in Asaba, particularly in low-lying areas and locations with inadequate drainage infrastructure.

Workers expressed frustration over the recurring challenge, noting that the situation not only affects productivity but also poses risks to equipment, official documents, and other valuable assets within the broadcasting facility.

Residents and commuters in the vicinity also experienced difficulties as floodwaters rendered some roads partially impassable, resulting in delays and disruptions to normal activities.

Environmental experts have repeatedly warned about the increasing impact of climate-related weather events, poor drainage systems, and indiscriminate disposal of waste into waterways, all of which contribute to urban flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

Concerned residents called on relevant government agencies to urgently address drainage challenges around the DBS axis and other flood-prone areas of Asaba to prevent further disruptions and potential damage to public infrastructure.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts were reportedly being made to assess the extent of the flooding and determine the impact on the operations of the broadcasting station.

The incident serves as another reminder of the urgent need for sustainable flood-control measures and improved drainage infrastructure across Delta State's capital territory, especially as the rainy season intensifies.

Many residents hope that swift intervention by the authorities will help mitigate future occurrences and safeguard both public institutions and surrounding communities from the devastating effects of flooding.
