Ubeji Grammar School, Ubeji has emerged winner of the maiden secondary school quiz competition organized by the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG for students in secondary schools in Warri South local government.
According to chairman of Education Committee of NAIG, Mr. Bibi Ellis Ejuoghanranmokelesan, the one-day competition which was attended by three participants each from Dore Numa College, Erejuwa Grammar School, Nana College, Hussey College, Ubeji Grammar School and Yonwuren College all in Warri is to encourage the students in their academic pursuit as well as learning of their cultural language.
Our Correspondent reports that the keenly contested quiz saw Ubeji Grammar School scoring 93 points to emerge tops, with a twenty thousand prize and 3 school bags containing notebooks, while Hussey College emerged first runner-up with a fifteen thousand naira prize plus 3 school bags containing notebooks and Nana College came out third, thus going home with 10 thousand naira and textbooks. Nana College defeated Yonwuren College in a re-contest by a point after they tied 79 points in the first round.
Subjects contested for are Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Commerce, Economics and Itsekiri language.
The Warri South Council Head of Personnel Management, Mr. James Kolo who was represented by the council’s head of community development department, Madam Dora Ugedi commended NAIG for the initiative and stated that it will go a long way in bringing the best in the students as well as discourage idleness amongst them.
