Chevron is the highest contributor of gas, our GMoU Module used for PIA – Dr. Anyaegbudike

The Manager and Chief Communications Officer, Chevron Nigeria and Mid Africa Region, Dr. Victor Anyaegbudike, says Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL is the highest contributor of Gas among the International Oil and Gas Companies, IOCs operating in Nigeria.

Dr. Anyaegbudike, stated that the company was also working very hard to increase production through major investment in the onshore, deep onshore and offshore platforms, noting that CNL has reduced gas flaring to 98 percent, with a commitment to take it to zero percent flaring.

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that Dr. Anyaegbudike, who spoke at Asaba, Monday August 24, during a one-day Workshop on Oil and Gas Reporting, with the Theme ‘Enhancing Professional Skills and Ethical Standards in Oil and Gas Journalism, explained that CNL is investing more in Nigeria, hence the firm wants improvement in communication and information dissemination.

Dr. Anyaegbudike, averred that Chevron’s GMoU module, was used for the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, which according to him, has helped in reducing challenges in host communities across the Niger Delta. 

He said CNL, has been the highest supporter of local content development in Nigeria, by spending over 10 Billion Dollars to the Nigeria Content advancement.

While giving more explanation on CNL’s support to the host communities, Dr. Anyaegbudike stated that CNL has over the past years, supported journalism practice with training of more than 500 journalists in Advance Writing and Reporting Skills, in partnership with Pan Atlantic University, PAU, Lagos.

According to the communication expert, over 50 thousand Nigerians were engaged with more than 456 contractors during the EGTL project at Ugborodo in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council, Comr. Churchill Oyowe, commended Chevron Nigeria Limited, for the training, saying Delta NUJ remains committed to better information dissemination.

According to Oyowe, oil and gas journalism requires more than the ability to write a good story, noting that journalists must understand the industry’s value chain, regulatory framework, environmental concerns, community relations, energy transition and the complex economic issues surrounding the sector.

He also stressed the need for journalists to uphold professional ethics, accuracy and fairness in their reportage, even as he tasked journalists to use the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification, where necessary to enhance their  views.
