Engr. Ogie Samson

Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Indigenous Contractors Forum has said it is not part of a planned protest by some Unknown persons to allegedly protest to the commission's headquarters in Warri, Delta State.

The forum, in a statement titled "Refutal/Disclaimer To An Illegal Protest By Some Unknown persons" and signed by its Chairman, Engr Ogie Samson and Secretary, Prince Charles Ebigbagha, said those planning the protest under the guise of contractors were strange to DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum.

It maintained that DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum comprises of various ethnic nationalities in the oil producing areas, noting that there is no other known body of contractors liasing with the interventionist agency.

The forum declared "The DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum wants to notify the general public, the DESOPADEC Management and Security Agencies that we are NOT a party to any planned protest to the commission by some unknown person's.

"We therefore call on the law enforcement agencies to investigate and verify properly the person's involved because we believe it is for pure politics and arranged by some person's trying to undermine the political process of the governor as been circulated", it stated.

The forum disclosed that information available to the group indicates that some principal officers have political interests other than that of the governor thereby sponsoring persons to undermine the commission.

"Information we gathered shows that those people claiming to be contractors and planning to protest to the commission by some prominent principals.

"They are not contractors but hired to do so. We are also aware that some members of the board who are having the mind of supporting anti party in giving fake information to the people.

"We are using this medium to inform the security agencies that Indigenous Contractors Forum has a cordial relationship with the board", it added stressing that there is no reason for any confrontation between the forum and the management of DESOPADEC.

The forum noted that though, while awaiting the second batch of backlog payment promised by the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, it gathered that some persons were striving for certificates to justify the fake protest.

"While we awaits the second batch of backlog payment as promised by His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of our dear state, information reaching the Executives of DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum indicates that there are persons going about looking for certificates to justify fake protest for political reasons over the forthcoming elections", it added.

The forum therefore urged the security agencies to do a proper investigation to unravel those planning to throw DESOPADEC into crisis for their selfish interests.

It maintained that DESOPADEC Indigenous Contractors Forum has no reasons for confrontation with the management of the commission noting that if there should be any need, it has a way of solving issues with it since both the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor and the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Chief Kome Okpobor, are always available to attend to them.

The forum particularly shower praises on the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Chief Kome Okpobor for running an open door policy adding " his office doors are always open, not only to us but also to all the staff and visitors to the commission. He is very accessible to all" as also the md cheiffestus ochornogho, it added.
