Publish details of surveillance contract to douse tension, Mene charges NNPCL
Mrs. Tsaye Mene

Convener of Warri Reclamation Thrust, Mrs. Tsaye Mene, has called on the Group Managing Director, GMD and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Bashir Ojulari to immediately publish details of the pipeline surveillance contract " to douse tension and prevent any breakdown of peace" in the Niger Delta.

Mrs. Mene, who made the call in a brief statement made available to Fresh Angle International this evening, Tuesday October 6, said figures currently making the rounds in public space, are causing serious agitation among host communities and stakeholders in the region.

"We urge NNPC Limited not to play on the sensibility of the people. Tensions are rising. These allegations flying around, if not properly addressed with facts and transparency, could degenerate into an avoidable crisis," she said.

She noted that as Niger Delta leaders, they have consistently called on NNPC to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of its duties, in order to avoid the kind of national debacle the country now finds itself in.

"Our position has always been clear - transparency is non-negotiable. NNPC must speak to the people with facts. The Niger Delta cannot continue to bear the burden of oil production while being kept in the dark about contracts concerning our own environment and security," Mrs. Mene added.
