Nigerians in Delta State are groaning following the economic hardship that is growing stronger as the yuletide season draws nearer, Fresh Angle can report.
Feelers across Delta State, particularly in the twin cities of Warri and Effurun shows increasing frustration among residents of the state following the continuous demolition of roadside caravans, shanties and over-hanging roofs by the state government as well as mounting job loses in the oil sector.
While petty traders whose shops and caravans are affected by the demolition are crying in pains and confusion, wandering where to relocate to in a bid to continue their business, hundreds of workers remaining in the Escravos Gas To Liquid Project, EGTL are being dropped as the project is expected to wind off December 31.
Already, Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC has laid off 1,500 workers, commercial motorcycle operators have been banned from major streets of Warri and Effurun, flood has destroyed major farms in parts of the state, while there are zero activities in Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, Chevron established Egbema/Gbaramatu Development Foundation and Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing/Impacted Communities Development Committee, IRDC.
The epileptic power supply from PHCN as well as the worsening fuel situation in the state has all contributed to the harsh economy in Warri, Effurun and other parts of the state, thus making residents of the state to struggle in coping with the harsh realities, rather than planning for the yearly yuletide.
