Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello appears to have gotten his way in the crisis that rocked Kogi State House of Assembly yesterday, August 2 as the House of Assembly on Wednesday August 3 got a new Speaker, Mathew Kolawole, following the controversial resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Imam of Lokoja 1 Constituency.
Fresh Angle International can report that Hon. Ahmed Imam’s resignation was announced by the Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi Baiwa who presided over the House sitting Wednesday August 3.
The new Speaker, Hon. Matthew Kolawole who is representing Kabba Bunnu Constituency emerged following his nomination by the member representing Ankpa 1 Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed and seconded by the member representing Okehi Constituency, Abdulkareem Kekere.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Kolawole who was formerly the House Majority Leader promised to carry all aggrieved members along by delivering good legislation and people-driven leadership.
The new leadership change in the Kogi State Legislature also sees Hon. Bello Hassan Balogun, APC Ajaokuta emerging the new Majority Leader, while Victor Omofaye, APC Ijumu Constituency was elected Chief Whip.
It was reliably gathered from competent sources that there was presence of heavily armed security men, comprising the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp during the plenary that led to the formal House leadership change.
