Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema says the rate at which some residents of Warri dump refuse indiscriminately at major roads and streets is not encouraging his administration in the determination to ensure a cleaner Warri South Local Government Area.
The Warri South Council Boss who made the declaration Monday August 7 while supervising a special two-week operation clean-up Warri amid the torrential rains vis-à-vis NIMET prediction of impending floods, explained that the exercise involves clearing of weeds along roads and streets as well as opening up of drains.
Hon. Edema noted that the exercise was made possible due to revenue generated from within the Council.

The Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George in an interview warned against the placement of adverts on the median of major roads and streets in Warri without approval by the Local Government Authority, saying defaulters face prosecution.
He admonished people of Warri to patronize approved refuse vendors in their area instead of dumping refuse along the road and unapproved dumpsites.
The Head of Environment Department, Warri South Local Government Council, Mr. Solomon Umukoro stressed the need for owners of hospital, clinics, laboratories and other medical centres in Warri to patronize only the PSP operators approved by Warri South Local Government Council for the management of their waste, adding that it is very important due to the sensitive nature of such waste.
Our Correspondent reports that the special two-week sanitation exercise which commenced Thursday August 4 with the clearing of over-grown weeds and drainages along the Police Barrack Road and Swamp Road by Governor’s Lodge, has already covered areas such as Esisi Road, Okere Market and Estate Axis in Warri.
