The crisis that have bedeviled Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC may not be settled anytime soon as the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG has revealed that the intervention of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Kpotum Idris through the instrumentality of court has stopped possible “mindless looting of Itsekiri funds”, totaling N 2.1 billion.
The amount which is in the coffers of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC was said to be the target of “some cabals that have vowed to under-develop Itsekiri Nation”.
President of NAIG, Mr. Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema who raised the alarm Sunday August 14 at NAIG Secretariat in Warri, Delta State during a press briefing with select-journalists, stated, “but for the timely response of this brilliant numero uno Nigerian Police leader at checkmating the continuous financial hemorrhaging of the entire Itsekiri Nation by self-centred forces, we would have lost a whooping sum of N2.1 billion lodged in seven (7) different accounts with Keystone Bank Ltd”.
According to the Itsekiri graduates’ body, “whereas others are deploying their funds in massive infrastructural and human capital development, those on whom we conferred the assignment have cornered our collective wealth with reckless abandon and gone on a voyage of discovery”.
NAIG noted that it has concluded plans to stage an Itsekiri Economic Summit in collaboration with notable Itsekiri professionals, foreign development partners and other key stakeholders with a view to exploring ways on how the IRDC N 2.1 billion which has been frozen following the IGP’s intervention can be used to develop the 23 Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing Communities..
Checks by Fresh Angle International revealed that the IGP’s intervention was sequel to a petition written by some unnamed prominent Itsekiris.
