PDP, an implosion in sight?

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP has never cease to boasts that it is the biggest political party in Africa.
The veracity of its claim remains a subject for another day, but its dominance of Nigerian politics since 1999 has brought more economic woes and infrastructural decay to Nigeria, notwithstanding the controversial growth rate often ascribed to Nigeria by some international agencies.

The party’s philosophy of “ it’s a family affair” in terms of handling serious National political mess sometimes caused by some of its members have been largely given plaudits in the past, without recourse to the seed of indiscipline being sown which often have trickle down effect on our polity.
Experience over the years have shown that majority of its members, including its members who contested on other party platforms are short of party loyalty, they are only political jobbers seeking appointments, elective offices or relevance without having national interest in their mind.

Recent events in the PDP between its National Chairman, Tafada Adamawa, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and Governors elected on the platform of the party only reminds us of the prophesy of Prophet Isaac Idahosa at Word of Life Bible Church in Warri November 2009,when he said that Goodluck Jonathan will rule Nigeria for one year and should not be tempted to go beyond that, otherwise there will be crisis in the PDP which will affect Nigeria and subsequently lead to radical positive change in the country.

It must be said however that there was a clause in that prophesy which allows Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to contest for a three year tenure should he get the blessing of the National PFN President, cum CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The rest is now history though, as Dr. Goodluck Jonathan then went ahead to contest and he is now Nigeria’s President, with indications emerging that he might contest the same position in 2015. It is no longer news that most of the governors backed the Goodluck Jonathan Presidency in 2011 because of their selfish ambition to run for second term despite a gentleman agreement within the party which ceded power to the North for 8 years, no thanks to the death of President Umaru Yar, Adua.

It is therefore no surprise that reports emerged recently that a meeting of PDP governors where their reservations about President Jonathan’s administration and its speculated return bid was secretly recorded and allegedly sent to President Jonathan.

Whether we like it or not, the so called ability of the party which says its umbrella is big enough and it has the ability to handle its challenges appear to be fading away very fast. The position of the governors who are apparently indisposed to President Jonathan’s speculated return bid as well as their stance on national issues, renewed move by the National Assembly to review the 1999 constitution are pointers to the fact that an implosion is imminent in the PDP.

Maybe Prophet Isaac Idahosa’s prophecy is about to materialize and only an unlikely compromise by PDP governors on Jonathan’s speculated return bid will rubbish this postulation.
