Information Managers at the Local Government level in Delta State under the auspices of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Local Government Information Officers’ Chapel has expressed displeasure over the inaction of the Delta State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists to ensure that the Weigh-In Allowance (22.5% of salary) already being enjoyed by their Federal and State counterparts are implemented for Mass Communicators at the Local Government level.
Fresh Angle International can report that the position of the NUJ LG Info Officers Chapel was reached at the end of an emergency meeting held Thursday November 9 at Ughelli North Council Secretariat in Ughelli, Delta State.
Chairman of the NUJ LG Information Officers’ Chapel, Comrade Shepherd Ikpibako in a press statement shortly after the emergency meeting lamented the ‘cold feet’ of the Delta State NUJ executive led by its Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu towards the implementation of the 22.5% of salary allowance to the LG Information Officers, which will serve as “compensation for inconveniences associated with the job”.
According to Comrade Ikpibako, their counterparts at the State level started enjoying the 22.5% salary increase since April 2016 after the implementation at the Federal level.
While noting that the Local Government Information Officers are willing as always “to live up to their obligations to the State Council of NUJ”, Comrade Ikpibako averred that it was the resolution of members of the Chapel that the Comrade Mike Ikeogwu leadership of Delta NUJ should take centre stage in the pursuit to create separate department for Local Government Information Units at the Local Government level in Delta State and do everything within its powers to ensure the implementation of the 22.5% salary increment, insisting that it will go a long way in enabling the LG Information Officers meet up with their professional financial obligations as well as enhance their professionalism.
