The Warri Rebirth Initiative has called on the Niger Delta Avengers and all other similar groups in the Niger Delta to give peace a chance and allow the process of growth planned by the Federal Government to take proper hold.
The call by the group was contained in a statement in Warri shortly after it met to review current issues in the country with particular reference to Delta State and the Niger Delta region.
In the statement endorsed by its chairman Mr. Kes Agbosa, Warri Rebirth Initiative said the region has had enough face off with the Nigerian Military and that the time had come for all to brace up to the challenge of growing a peaceful and progressive region and nation.
The statement however added that the Federal Government should fully activate its agenda for the region to curtail frequent agitations and threats of resumption of hostilities and the damage of oil infrastructure.
Warri Rebirth Initiative also commended all groups that have so far added their voice in calling for peace and restraint explaining that any face-off between the Nigerian Military and the militants was bound to have a telling effect on the ordinary people as well as the economy of Nigeria and Delta State.
The statement explained' we as a socio cultural, non-political group seeking the well-being of our people in Warri and its environs cannot sit back and watch while the polity is getting heated up for something that can be resolved on the table of dialogue'.
Continuing, it added that 'while the Niger Delta Avengers have a point in requesting that the agitations of people in the area be addressed, we believe that these things can be done without recourse to violence as it is the innocent ones who will suffer, be displaced and left in misery'.
It appealed that, 'we are therefore calling on the Niger Delta Avengers to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign'.
Warri Rebirth Initiative is a leading voice in restoring the values of peace, harmonious coexistence and socio economic as well as cultural revival of the Warri area and her people.
