Council steps in as fresh fire engulfs Warri Market
A section of the market razed down by the inferno

Authorities of Warri South Local Government Area in the early hours of Saturday June 16, rushed down to Ogbe-Ijoh Market, Warri, following fresh inferno that engulfed the market at about 11:30pm Friday June 15, leaving no fewer than 100 shops razed down.

The inferno which came barely seven months after similar incident occurred in the market, completely burnt down properties and wares worth millions of naira.

The traders who were yet to recover from the loss of previous fire outbreaks in the market, were in utter grief and still counting their losses when the Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Mrs.

Divine Iniovosa and Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye dashed to the scene on the directive of Warri South Chairman, Hon. Michael Tidi.

Warri South Council Boss, Hon. Tidi in a message through his vice, Mrs. Iniovosa, assured the traders that everything will be done to put a stop to the recurring inferno, noting that his administration will work with the relevant government agencies to provide the needed security and safety measures around the market.

As at the time of this report, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, but part of the market most affected, was the area where expensive smoked as well as fresh fish and Cray fish are sold.
