The Commissioner Representing Delta State in the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo has tasked Monarchs in Isoko Nation to abolish illegal collection of levies popularly known as 'deve', by youths from contractors operating in Isoko communities in order to get quality job executed in their area.
Speaking during a 'Town Hall meeting at Oleh Isoko South Local Government Area, Sunday August 19, Dr. Ifowodo explained that he will soon tour oil bearing communities in Delta State in collaboration with an international development agency, 'Partnership For Sustainable Development' in order to ascertain needs of the people and how to make people feel involved in NDCC projects.
He commended the Oba of Benin for taking the lead, banning illegal collection of levies from contractors and developers within Benin Kingdom, adding that he will continue to advocate for the total disbandment of illegal extortion from developers in Isoko land.
The Delta State NDDC Commissioner assured Isoko people of the commitment of NDDC in developing the area, noting that NDDC has awarded Ofagbe-Ibrede-Onogboko Road, Okpe-Isoko Road and Enwhe - Olomoro Road among other projects awarded in Isoko land, just as he quipped that some projects will be completed before the dry season of this year.
He urged communities to be owners of their own projects by helping to monitor NDDC projects in their various communities and report sharp practices by any contractor to NDDC for further action.
President-General of Isoko Development Union IDU, Chief Iduh Amadhe appealed to all traditional rulers and presidents of various clans in Isoko to make sure no youth in any community disturb or extort money from any contractor carrying out development projects in any part of Isoko land.
The IDU President-General praised, Dr. Ifowodo for creating an image that will move him very fast to higher level in his carrier.
