Delta State Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIO, on Monday March 25, impounded several commercial vehicles and tricycles in Warri over failure of the owners to in-scribe the state government code number on them, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.

Mr. David Igho Oboturi , Special Assistant to the state  commissioner of transport, Mr. Ben Igbakpa who spoke exclusively  to  Fresh Angle said the exercise which was carried out along the busy Warri-Sapele road close to PHCN Warri District office and Warri South Council main secretariat, thus causing heavy traffic is to sanitize the transport system in Warri, adding that the town has become too chaotic for vehicular movement.

The Commissioner’s aide pointed out that the attitude of the commercial drivers towards the collection of the new code number has been very poor, noting that it’s been three months since the ministry commenced the sale of the code number.

He explained that the decision to impound the  commercial vehicles as well as private cars wrongly parked is to check the excesses of the commercial bus drivers and tricycle operators particularly in Warri and  Delta State in general.

According to the commissioner’s aide, “any commercial bus driver and tricycle operator who have not gotten Delta State government code number will have his vehicle or tricycle impounded”.

Some of the commercial bus drivers who spoke to Fresh Angle on the development accused the state government of demanding too much from them.
Some commercial transport operators were seen by Our Senior Correspondent making U-turns for fear of having their vehicles impounded while the operation lasted.

Investigation reveals that the commercial tricycle operators are being asked to pay one thousand five hundred naira as against three thousand naira to get the state government operational code number.
