Legal practitioner advocates death penalty for those found guilty of corruption

A Delta based constitutional lawyer and social commentator,Barr. Lucky Egboyi has advocated death penalty for anyone found guilty of corruption in Nigeria.
Barr. Egboyi who spoke to Fresh Angle in an exclusive telephone chat, called on the Federal Government to make specialized laws and establish specialized courts separate from the conventional courts to enable it deal decisively with corrupt persons in Nigeria.

The legal practitioner expressed optimism that once the federal government makes death sentence a penalty for those found guilty of  corruption, which according to him is worse than armed robbery, it will serve as deterrent to others, just as he stressed that if the specialized courts are established, it will help in dealing with corrupt offenders.

He posited that there should be a time frame for the dispensation of corrupt cases like it is in electioneering matters, adding that the new laws should be made in such a way that it should not create lacuna for unnecessary adjournment of cases.

Barr. Egboyi however  expressed fears that our political leaders will not want to make such laws because of their selfish interest. He cited the case of Hon. Farouk Lawan who was accused of corruption yet he is still in the House of Representatives making laws for Nigeria, a situation which according to him does not put Nigeria in good light before the international community.

While  accusing Alhaji Maina and John Yusuf of being the real enemies of Pensioners in Nigeria, he called for the arrest of Justice Abubakar Talba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, describing his ruling on Mr. John Yusuf who pleaded guilty as ridiculous and unacceptable.

The constitutional lawyer who described the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress as a “conduit pipe to siphon money from government”, said the sudden suspension of the one-day warning strike/protest slated for Wednesday April 10 by NLC and TUC against pension fraud is a clear indication that they have gotten “something” from the federal government.
