Suspected kidnap gang kills member of Ughelli vigilante

Suspected members of the dreaded kidnap gang that allegedly ambushed and killed two Nigerian Prisons Service staff in Delta State on their way to a High Court in Warri, on Friday April 19 killed a member of Ughelli Vigilante and injured another member of the vigilante at Agbarha, Ughelli, Fresh Angle has gathered.

Credible sources said members of the Ughelli Vigilante in-company of soldiers and policemen went in search of members of the notorious gang who earlier killed two soldiers in Kokori, Ethiope East local government area of the state.

It was gathered that the involvement of the members of the vigilante in the security men manhunt for the notorious gang infuriated the dreaded gang who then mobilized and attacked the vigilante members who were on routine patrol in the area. The kidnap gang who were in the area on information opened fire on them, leaving in its wake the death of a vigilante member simply identified as Onovughe and another member of the vigilante sustained serious gunshot injuries, while the others scampered for safety.

Fresh Angle gathered that after the hoodlums successfully carried out the operation, they allegedly boasted on the main road that they will deal with Delta State government before they are killed. They allegedly added that if the state government does not leave them alone, they will continue to terrorize the state.
Reports say it was the action of the gang which allegedly killed two soldiers at Kokori that led to the ban of commercial motorcycle operations in Ethiope East local government area by the Delta State government as well as the alleged arrest of innocent indigenes of Agbon Kingdom by soldiers and other security operatives.

Meanwhile, movement of commercial motorcycle operators in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North local government area has been restricted from 7pm to 6am daily as a result of the attack on the vigilantes by the kidnap gang.

When Our Senior Correspondent visited the vigilante camp in Ughelli on Sunday April 22, no one was on ground to make any comment on the ugly development.
