Speaker ofDelta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei has charged members of DeltaState Chapter of Association of Community Newspapers Publishers of Nigeria,ACNPN, to shun sensationalism in their reportage.

The Speaker handeddown the charge Tuesday November 15 when members of ACNPN paid him a courtesyvisit at his office in Asaba, Delta State. According to him,balance reportage of events in the state has become necessary because itinfluences the people’s opinion, particularly at the grassroots.

He also advisedmembers of ACNPN to impress it upon their reporters on the need to adhere strictlyto the ethics of journalism, stressing that such can only be achieved throughhard work and safeguarding of integrity.

The Speakeralso promised to liaise with the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghanon the need for the appointment of an ACNPN member as Special Adviser on Media,Community Newspapers to the state government.

On theforthcoming national congress of ACNPN taking place in Delta State,Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei charged members of the association to display thehospitality people of the state are known for.

Earlier inhis remark, the Delta State Chairman of ACNPN, Prince Orhomonokpaye commendedmembers of the State House of Assembly for passing a resolution asking thestate governor to direct all contractors to site to complete jobs awarded tothem. While pledging the support of its members to the State House of Assemblyregarding adequate dissemination of information to the grassroots, PrinceOrhomonokpaye appealed to the speaker to prevail on Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to appointone of its own as Special Adviser on Media, Community Newspapers.
