2023: APC begins Niger Delta takeover bid with Omo-Agege, Amaechi, Akpabio, Sylva

The emergence of Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege as Deputy Senate President, DSP, re-appointment of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi as Minister of Transport, appointment of Obot Godswill Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Timipre Sylva as Minister of State for Petroleum  Resources and Festus Keyamo, SAN, as Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, appear to have clearly signaled a deliberate attempt by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to take over Niger Delta geopolitical zone from the dominant Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

But for Edo State, which is controlled by the APC, the ruling party at the National level, has often suffered defeat in the oil and gas- rich region as a result of the financial muscle of PDP, hence the ministerial appointment of Akpabio, Sylva and the ever rugged Amaechi, retaining the Transport Ministry, would provide the platform for APC chieftains to empower their loyalists ahead of the 2023 polls.

It remains to be seen if the new development would favour the APC in the forthcoming Bayelsa State Governorship election.
