Prominent opinion leader in Ofuoma oil producing community in Afiesere Oilfield, OML30 in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Chris Eriyamremu, has expressed satisfaction over what he described as the effective and community-friendly method adopted by an indigenous company, Ocean Marine Solutions, in handling the Intelligence Gathering and Pipeline Surveillance Contract in OML30.
Eriyamremu, a Peace Mediator, Media and Leadership Consultant, in a statement released at Ughelli and made available to Fresh Angle International, Tuesday August 27, noted that there was need for stakeholders and host communities in OML30 to support OMS and also take the responsibility to protect oil facilities in “our areas and ensure friendly environment”.
"I am aware that the management of Ocean Marine Solutions, OMS adopted a commendable method of operations by directly engaging or employing verifiable youths from the host communities through the leadership and representatives of the host communities, which I considered a more effective, transparent, accountable and efficient method", he stressed.
Eriyamremu also pointed that though OMS and other community contractors were engaged to secure pipeline and oil facilities in OML30, the indigenes from host communities were also under moral obligation to ensure making OML30 investment friendly.
He said, " I have confirmed that the youths and persons from the host communities so far engaged by Ocean Marine Solutions are paid promptly at the end of every month and more so, let me use this opportunity to reiterate that the people and host communities in OML30, are peaceful and law abiding Nigerians".
"As a people from host communities, we must be mindful of the fact that since SPDC started crude oil exploitation and exploration in the area, our farm lands had become unfertile and almost unproductive to grow crops, therefore, we must safeguard our crude oil pipelines to avoid further pollution of the lands as such self-inflicted act is detrimental to future generations of OML30", Eriyamremu emphasized.
