Expert tackles Obasanjo on failure of ALSCON, NACFON, DSC Aladja

A veteran engineer of over four decades in the oil and gas, steel and power sectors, Engr. (Dr.) Benson E. Okah- Avae has tackled former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the latter’s claim in a newspaper report  that ALSCON, NACFON, and Delta Steel Company, Aladja failed due to bad managers, seeking to know among others who appointed the managers, what government did to them for betraying the nation as well as what happened to the vehicle assembly plants that were established in Lagos, Kaduna and other places.

Engr. Okah-Avae, a visiting lecturer to two Universities in the Niger Delta noted that there is no communication between Universities in the country and industries, stressing that vision 2020 could end up in a fiasco if government fails to immediately establish benchmarks for engineering to cover the remaining seven years.

PUBLIC LECTURE: L-R: Engr. Ogiso Ovie, Engr. Asa Pokima, Engr. (Dr). Benson Okah-Avae, Engr. &  Mrs.    Wilson Ogubere, Engr. (Pst.) Gracious Omatseye, Mr. Fredrick Evah, Engr. Ajiri Ogedegbe, Engr. Joseph Eghwrudje & Engr. Musa Abdulhamid during a public lecture organized in Effurun by NSE, Warri Branch, Saturday November 9

According to him, the non- existence of an industrial base after 53 years of independence despite over five National development plans spanning several decades should be “ placed at the feet of an inept and corrupt leadership that place no emphasis” on production and self reliance.

The engineer cum academician who was speaking on the “the Impact of Engineering for Sustainable National Development- the Nigerian Scenario” during a public lecture organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Warri branch Saturday November 9 also corroborated the views of the NSE Warri branch Chairman, Engr. Precious Omatseye, calling for critical review of the local technology being used by illegal bunkerers in refining crude oil with a view to developing the country’s oil and gas industry.

While a former Warri branch Chairman of NSE, Engr. W. A. Ogubere opined that maintenance culture is the secret of sustainable development, Delta State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon in a message through his Special Assistant, Mr. Fredrick Evah stated that the Delta Beyond Oil agenda of the Uduaghan administration is poised to create employment for youths as well as address security challenges.
