We can no longer work without confirmation, VTP5/0TP2 staff tell Chevron

All VTP5/OTP2 Operator/ Maintenance Trainees of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL on Tuesday June 21 embarked on industrial action, saying they are “too disoriented to continue to work” in “hazardous conditions without being confirmed staff of CNL, having full benefits”.

Fresh Angle International gathered that the VTP5/OTP2 Operator/Maintenance Trainees have been on training since March 3, 2013 on the premise that after one year training at Ogere and six months on the job training, they will be converted as staff by the oil and gas major, Chevron Nigeria Limited.

The aggrieved workers who are working at Okan, Sonam and other CNL operational locations said their action became unavoidable after conducting “a thorough Industrial Hazard Analysis, IHA”.

Reacting to the development, President/CEO of National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG, Comrade Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema called on the management of Chevron to “address the situation immediately to forestall any breakdown of law and order”.

The Itsekiri graduates’ body which noted that its position is on behalf of Itsekiri host communities, demanded the immediate conversion of all Itsekiri graduates’ trainees under the programme without further delay”.
