Kantu community pledges to ensure peace and security in Delta waterways

The elders and entire people of Kantu community in Gbaramatu kingdom of Warri South-West council area has pledged to collaborate with other riverine communities and the state government to ensure peace and security in the waterways during and after the re-scheduled 2015 general election.

Head of Kantu community, Pa. Benjamin Tosan made this pledge at a one-day meeting of sons and daughters of the community held at the town hall Monday where a new working committee was inaugurated with Mr. Felix Eyiangho as Chairman and Mr. Stephen Atikan as Vice-chairman.

The community head, Pa Benjamin Tosan commended President Jonathan, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and other stake holders for amicably resolving the controversies surrounding the ground breaking ceremony of the $16billion Escravos Gas City project which he said has caused tension in the waterways in recent times.

Pa. Tosan poured encomium on the elders council, youths and women for their peaceful disposition which he noted has brought about a harmonious co-existence between the Itsekiri and Ijaw communities in the area.

Other members of the new working committee inaugurated by the spiritual head of the Kantu, Pa. Abisoye Magengen in the presence of the out-going chairman, Mr. Saturday Timinimi are: Monday Nesiangho, treasurer; Beke Timinimi, P.R.O and Monday Liolio.  

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Felix Eyiangho thanked the community for the confidence reposed on them for the next three years and promised not to disappoint them, saying that he would liaise with companies operating in the area and government agencies to fast-track development in the community.

Present at the meeting were Chiefs Satchie Etoromi, a member of the Gbaramatu council of chiefs and chiefs Arthur Eyiangho and Dickson Wereyesigha respectively.
