PHCN uses ghost account for fraud - Hospital Staff alleges


The Head of Technical and Maintenance Department of Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, Mr. Victor Ayibatarinogiyo has alleged that Port Harcourt Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN uses ghost account number 87/00/51/0894-01 in extorting money worth millions of naira from Bayelsans, Our Bayelsa State Correspondent reports.

Mr. Ayibatarinogiyo who made the allegation to Newsmen in Yenegoa, disclosed that business outlets in the area, including Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital have over the years been a target of the trend and when they resist, they are disconnected from the national grid.

He said that as at December 2012, the hospital paid N 250, 000 for monthly electricity tariff and in January, 2013 a bill of N 3.2 million was sent, on the premise that past bills were paid into a wrong account (87/00/51/0894-01) in the office of PHCN Yenagoa.

He quipped that in 2013, they paid N 500.00 monthly, at a point they paid the sum of N12, 920, 325. 52 and they were given N 7, 007, 262. 21 as debt after payment, saying as if that was not enough, the bill was increased to N800.00 hence they refused and resorted to using generator as well as requested for a prepaid metre.
