Caution Ejiro Imuere, Mene-Ejegi tells Oborevwori

Coordinator of Itsekiri Sentinel, Comr. Ajemijeroma Gabriel Mene-Ejegi, has called on Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to caution one Dr. Ejiro Imuere, saying Dr. Imuere’s public statements, are capable of reopening wounds, generating suspicion or creating fresh tension in Warri South Local Government Area.

According to Comr. Mene-Ejegi, the current moment of reconciliation, renewed understanding and peaceful coexistence among the people of Warri, particularly within Warri South, requires responsible leadership, restraint and words that unite, rather than statements capable of reopening old wounds or creating fresh tension.

The Itsekiri Sentinel Coordinator, who made the call in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Monday August 17, said the recent reconciliation between The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III and the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, HRM Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, is a development that every peace-loving person in Warri should welcome, celebrate and protect.

The statement, reads: “At this very important moment of reconciliation, renewed understanding and peaceful coexistence among the people of Warri, particularly within Warri South, I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to use your good offices to safeguard this emerging peace and call Dr. Ejiro Imuere to caution. This is a delicate moment that requires responsible leadership, restraint and words that unite rather than statements capable of reopening old wounds or creating fresh tension among our people.

“The recent meeting and reconciliation between His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, The Olu of Warri, and His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, is a development that every peace-loving person in Warri should welcome, celebrate and protect.

“Most importantly, His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, The Olu of Warri, has opened his heart to peace and unity and has made it clear to his subjects that we must live peacefully with our neighbours. His Majesty's pronouncement that the word “slave” must no longer come from our mouths is a powerful royal call for tolerance, dignity, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

“This is a development we should all celebrate and protect.

“It is therefore concerning that, at a time when our traditional rulers are extending hands of friendship and reconciliation, public statements capable of reopening wounds, generating suspicion or creating fresh tension are still being made.

“Dr. Ejiro Imuere has the right to his opinions and advocacy. However, such rights must be exercised with responsibility, maturity and respect for the traditional institutions of others. Advocacy should build bridges, not destroy them.

“As a Legislative Assistant to the Honourable Member representing Warri South Constituency 1, I am fully conscious of the importance of peace and stability in our communities. We cannot be preaching peace in one breath while making statements capable of undermining that peace in another.

“Let me therefore state this respectfully but firmly, Dr. Imuere should allow the current peace process to breathe. He should not introduce narratives capable of turning a moment of joy and reconciliation into another source of rancour.

“We, the Itsekiri, have the utmost respect for His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, and we remain firmly committed to His Imperial Majesty's call for peace, unity and peaceful coexistence. We equally respect our neighbours and their traditional institutions, including His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emakpo Orereh, Igbi II, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom.

“We have had enough of unnecessary tension. We must not allow careless words or provocative narratives to destroy what our traditional rulers are working hard to rebuild.

“Your Excellency, Sir, I therefore humbly appeal to you to engage Dr. Ejiro Imuere and other relevant stakeholders where necessary, and encourage everyone to exercise restraint, responsibility and wisdom in their public utterances.

“This is not a call for confrontation; it is a call for wisdom.

It is not an attempt to silence anyone; it is a call to protect peace.

It is not about winning an argument; it is about preserving Warri.

“Dr. Imuere, respectfully, let peace reign in Warri. Let the reconciliation between our royal fathers go beyond ceremonies and become a lasting foundation for unity, understanding and peaceful coexistence among our people.

“Warri needs peace.

Warri needs unity.

Warri needs responsible voices.

Warri does not need rhetoric capable of reopening old wounds.

May God bless Delta State.

May God bless Warri.

May God bless the Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw people.

“And may God continue to preserve His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, and all our traditional rulers.”
