The leadership of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, says it's uncharitable for the federal government not to resume construction of the long abandoned Koko - Ogheye - Lagos Road, with a view to connecting it to the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway.
President of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Comrade Appearance Afejuku, in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, Delta State, Saturday October 17, said there was no rationale for the federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, not to link up Koko - Ogheye - Lagos Road to the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway.
According to the Itsekiri youth leader, Koko - Ogheye - Lagos Road, arguably represents the first definition of a major coastal road project in Nigeria, before the President Bola Tinubu administration, mooted the idea of the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway.
Afejuku, posited that the proximity, economic viability, challenges associated with climate change, ocean surge, the task of developing our blue economy and contributions of Itsekiri Nation to the economic survival of the country, make resumption of work at the abandoned Koko - Ogheye - Lagos Road and connecting it to the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway, vitally important.
He urged the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi to ensure that the redesign/ reroute of Lagos - Calabar Coastal Highway, connects Koko - Ogheye Road.
" Patience , understanding and support of Itsekiri Nation to the federal government, should not be misconstrued for weakness" Afejuku, added.
