Oghara produces President-General of UPU youth wing


An Oghara indigene from Ethiope West Local Government Area, Comr. Nicholas Omoko has reportedly emerged President General of the youth wing of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU in a keenly contested election that saw him allegedly defeating Chief Jolly Ogbe from Udu kingdom

According to report, the electoral committee adopted option A4 and the Oghara born youth leader, Omoko polled 32 votes against his rival, Jolly Ogbe who gannerd 8 votes.

The election reportedly held at “Urhobo House, Okere Road, Warri”, amid a mild drama that erupted prior to the election.

Speaking earlier, President- General of Urhobo Progress Union, Olorogun Moses Taiga represented by the Secretary of the parent body, Olorogun (Bar.) Ese Gam Owe told contestants to conduct themselves in a manner that would speak well of them and Urhobo Nation, averring that the election would be peaceful, transparent, free and fair.

The electoral committee Chairman, Bar. Isaac Itebu explained that delegates were nominated by kings of various kingdoms in Urhobo land, noting that twelve positions were returned unopposed, while four positions were contested for. The positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Publicity Secretary and Legal Adviser.

In his inaugural speech, Comr. Nicholas Omoko promised to work in synergy with the parent body with a view to reviving the Urhobo language.

He assured Urhobo youths of transparent and all-inclusiveness during his administration, stressing that his leadership will correct the hitherto abnormalities done by previous administration, even as he called on all aggrieved persons to join hands with him to move Urhobo Nation forward.

Others elected include: Jeffrey Ebireri, Ewu (Vice), Joseph Adjari, Okpe (Sec), Raymond Temisere, Olomu (PRO), Abraham Eka, Effurun-Otor (Org. Sec), Peter Dievuamrere, Arhavwarien (Chief whip) Gabriel Eyefia, Agbarho-Otor (Auditor), Godwin Uwietesivwi, Ogor (Treasurer), Eguono Okpeh, Agbarha-Warri (Fin.Sec.) and Oghenemine Amodu, Agbon (Welfare).
