The umbrella body of Itsekiri students across tertiary institutions in Nigeria under the auspices of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS is set to conduct fresh election to elect a new executive for 2018.

This much was disclosed to newsmen Thursday January 4 in Warri, Delta State by the out-going National President of NAIS, Comrade Norman Komeju Nora.

Comrade Norman noted that her leadership on Wednesday January 3 set up a four-man electoral committee chaired by Testimony Oritsegbubemi Ereku, Adanoritsewo Atiene-Secretary as well as Abeke Joy Ayiri and Uduomayemi Oritsegbubemi, with a view to ensuring that the election is conducted not later than January 10, 2018 for a new NAIS National executive to emerge.

While felicitating with Adviser to NAIS, Sir A.S. Mene on his appointment as member of the board of Federal Medical Centre, Abuja as well as for his unflinching support, the NAIS President disclosed that her executive was able to execute the “catch them young programme”, which led to the distribution of writing materials such as Itsekiri textbooks, notebooks and biros to pupils as well as students of various primary and secondary schools in Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas.

She noted that apart from the distribution of writing materials which cost the association over N300, 000.00, with most of the beneficiaries being Itsekiris, anti-cultism and teenage pregnancy campaign was also carried out as part of the programme.

The outgoing NAIS leadership which assumed power in March 2017 as against January 2017, initially had Comrade Norman Komeju Nora elected as Vice President, before she took over from Otaru Moses as President in September 2017.

Norman insisted that organizing NAIS National weeklong convention in Warri, December 2017 was part of the achievements of her leadership amid teething challenges.
