The Itsekiri National Development Initiative under the leadership of Comrade Dennis Mene has passed a vote of confidence on the Special Adviser on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, General Paul Boroh over the prudent management of the Amnesty funds as well as ensuring that the programme benefits all, irrespective of ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region.
The group commended the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF for setting up the 16-man committee, headed by Air Commordore Nkanga (Rtd.) and Prof. Osunbor as the co- Chairmen to interface with the federal government with a view of strengthening the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
They canvased a situation where the Itsekiri ethnic nationality as second largest producer of oil to the Ijaws ethnic nationality, should always be included in the programme and committee of PANDEF.
The Chairman, Comrade Dennis Mene, who is also the President of Niger Delta Advocates For Good Governance and Environmental Justice, NDAGGEJ said those calling for the removal of General Paul Boroh are enemies of Niger Delta Development and wish to continue in the status quo of sharing funds meant for the development of the region.
He advised the management of the programme not to be distracted by the voice of enemies within, imploring them to send the remaining participants of the programme, with emphasis on those that are there since 2012 to their various study centres and higher institutions in the Niger Delta.
The Itsekiri National Development Initiative appealed for more amnesty opportunities and accommodation for members /youths who are yet to be included in the programme to curb the return of restiveness in the region.
In another development, the group called on the federal government to listen to the voice of wisdom and the rule of law in the naming of the Nigeria Maritime University as no government can exist in disobedience of its own law, urging the Itsekiri and Ijaws to live together in peace and unity for their common good.
The group also called on the Niger Delta governors and representatives of the people to be prudent with the people's resources and ensure that basic amenities are provided for the people.
