Rotary Club of Warri reveals plan to build peace centre

Rotary Club of Warri, district 9141 is to build a Peace Centre at Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.

President of Rotary Club of Warri, Rotarian Happy Apai who made the disclosure Saturday October 20 when he led members of Rotary Club of Warri to pay homage to the Traditional Ruler of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Orosuen, Prof. Paul Okumagba at his Palace, explained that the essence of the Peace Centre is to enable people gather with a view to discussing and moving  forward in harmony.

Rotarian Apai intimated the Monarch about Rotary Club of Warri programmes for the year such as embarking on the eradication of Polio through vaccination of children from 0-5 years, completion of the Physiotherapy Centre at Central Hospital, Warri as well as staging spelling competition among secondary schools in Warri South, Warri South-West, Warri North, Okpe and Uvwie Local Government Areas, as part of efforts to enhance the standard of education.

While praising the Okere-Urhobo Monarch for “being an ambassador of Polio eradication and a Paul Haris Fellow PHF”, the Rotary Club of Warri President appealed for a parcel of land from the Orosuen to enable the club build the Peace Centre.

Responding, the Orosuen of Okere-Urhobo promised to consult with his palace chiefs with a view to addressing the request for a parcel of land for the construction of the Peace Centre.

The Monarch who noted that he is a member of Rotary Club of Asaba GRA, assured that he will switch his membership to Rotary Club of Warri and commended Rotary Club of Warri for choosing Okere-Urhobo for the flag-off of this year’s Polio Eradication Programme.

The Orosuen pointed out that no community can make progress without peaceful coexistence and assured that he will continue to preach peaceful relationship among neighbouring communities.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Chairman, Polio Eradication Committee of Rotary Club of Warri, Rotarian Adamson Ejuoneatse Thompson, Dr. Henry Ejumudo and Chief Bright Okumagba were among those that spoke during the visit.

Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Warri has flagged-off free screening for HIV & counselling, Hepatitis B&C, Diabetes & Glucose level, Nutrition & mental Health services, Malaria as well as donation of sanitary pads to women, eye cataract tests/treatment and distribution of treated mosquito nets.
