2019: Politicians' Desperation for Political Platforms, Implications on Political Parties

The political space in Nigeria since 1999 has no doubt proved analysts right in their argument that our political gladiators are less than interested in serving the people, while the growing number of political parties either lack basic ideology  or unserious about implementing their political philosophy.

The almost daily cross-carpeting or dumping one political party for another by politicians, especially those seeking political offices in the build -up to the 2019 elections, is a classical example of desperation and"political prostitution".  

In some situations, the political actors switch party allegiance temporarily after they were unfairly schemed out from contesting their party primaries and in other cases, they fairly lost out in open as well as transparent party primaries.

Both situations do not warrant jumping from one political party to another in civilized democracy, where political party is supreme and clear political ideologies are spelt out.

By 2019, it will be 20 years the current political dispensation came on stream, but all that can be observed is political retrogression or deliberate stunted growth.

The embarrassing desperation as exhibited by political aspirants cum candidates, is a sore taste in our history and apparent indication of ethical bankruptcy by our self-seeking political class.                                   

The two dominant political parties in Nigeria, APC and PDP are major culprits in this negative political Chess game, which has given birth to several portfolio political parties with no clear structure on ground.                                 
That some supposedly respected political office holders will claim to be supporting the incumbent president or governors in their states and contesting political offices in 2019 on the platform of another political party different from the president or governors as it were, can best be described as "political rascality" that should not be accepted by rational minds.                                   

The implication of such shameful politicking is that our major political parties do not have structures from the federal to local government levels, like the registered portfolio political parties.

What that also means is that candidates contesting the 2019 polls, may have to carry their cross by themselves, since political party supremacy appears to have died in Nigeria.
