11-year old riverine student wins three Warris Quiz Competition, gets scholarship

11- year old Egbema-born JSS 2 student of Tsekelewu Secondary School in Warri North Local Government Area, Miss Success Dariji has won the fourth edition of Comrade Sheriff Mulade Inter Local Government Quiz and Essay Competitions for Junior and Secondary Schools respectively, in the rural/riverine areas of Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas of Delta State.

 

Our Senior Correspondent reports that Miss Dariji automatically earned herself a secondary school scholarship for winning the Quiz aspect of the competition.

 

Ojiko Ebiye of Gbaraun Grammar School, Oporoza in Gbaramatu, Warri South-West Local Government Area, came out tops in the Essay competition organized for secondary schools.

 

Topic of the Essay Competition was Environmental Degradation: Effects and Solution.

 

 

Fresh Angle International can report that the competition was part of efforts to improve the quality of education in Warri Federal Constituency and foster peaceful coexistence among people of the area.

 

 

The organizer/sponsor of the competitions, Comrade Sheriff Mulade in his remarks, noted, “it is only education that has the driving force to eradicate conflict among various ethnic groups living in Nigeria especially Ijaw and Itsekiri brothers”.

 

According to him, lack of early education in the rural areas led to denial of so many opportunities and underdevelopment of rural/riverine communities in the past.

 

He explained the essence of the quiz and essay competition was to bridge the gap between pupils and students of riverine/rural schools and their urban counterparts in terms of academics.

 

Comrade Mulade who is the National Coordinator, Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, cum Global Peace Ambassador, appealed to government at all levels, NGOs and well -meaning individuals to pay more attention to education.

The Quiz competition had participants from three schools in each of the local government area. The schools were St. Kabe Secondary School, Tsekelewu, Warri North, Tsekelewu Secondary School, Warri North, Alema College, Abigborodo, Warri North, Obodo College in Warri South, Erejuwa 11 Grammar School, Ode-Itsekiri, Warri South, Egbokodo-Itsekiri Secondary School, Warri South, St. Cletus Secondary School, Naifor Island, Warri South-West, Gbaraun Grammar School Oporoza, Warri South-West and Kokodiagbene Secondary School, Kokodiagbene in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

 

While presenting the star and consolation prizes to the winners, Comrade Mulade charged the students to be committed to their studies and shun negative vices so as not to derail their education pursuit.

 

Fresh Angle International can also report other winners in the Essay competition are Divine Princewill of Obodo College Warri, who emerged second and Eke Akachukwu of Egbokodo Secondary School, who won the third position.

 

Others who spoke during the event include Chief Inspector of Education, CIE for Warri South-West, Mrs. Okerie Christiana, CIE, Ika South, Mr. Eze Ariwojo as well as teachers and students.
